Logic Pro X Edit Windows

In Pro Tools you essentially have 2 windows the Edit Window and the Mixer Window. In Ableton Live everything is again compacted down to 2 windows, namely the Arrangement View and Session View. Things are quite different however when working in Logic Pro X. Historically there have always been quite a number of windows which one needed to access in order to make full use of the incredible functionality of this DAW. These windows include the:

  1. Main Window (formerly Arrange Window)
  2. Mixer Window
  3. Piano Roll Window
  4. Audio Editor (formerly the Sample Editor Window)
  5. Score Editor Window
  6. Hyper Editor
  7. Transform Window
  8. Environment Window
  9. Software Instrument Pop-up Windows
  10. Effects Processor Pop-up Windows

Key Commands for Edit Windows

Now as you become more familiar with the LPX DAW you will find that there are certain windows you will be needing to access very often in order to edit, select or shape sounds and events. Being able to instantly open or close each of these windows with a simple key command is an absolute must as this only speeds up your workflow and improves your outcomes. Of course there are quite a few of these windows and the key commands of some of the less frequently used ones will be harder to remember, that is why I advise you to print a list of these and keep it near to your workstation area. That being said, as with anything you do, the more you do it the easier it is to remember.

In the video I give practical demonstrations of how these shortcuts work and when I use them. I also cover my favourite ones and show how I quickly and effortlessly navigate through each window with ease. For uses of Logic Pro 9 you will find that many of the key commands have changed so it is very much worth spending the time learning how to use these keyboard shortcuts.

As always, I really do hope you find this video helpful in you music production journey. I’ve taken a great deal of time to produce these videos which highlight some of the hidden or seldom used key commands in Logic Pro X.  Once you have watched this tutorial feel free to check out the other instalments which really do help to unlock the power of this DAW and speed up your process at the same time. I’m always delighted to have your feedback and comments so please do remember to drop me a line in the comments section on YouTube. Kindly also like and subscribe to my channel too. I’ll be back with more real soon.
